Glencoe Precalculus, Part One

Embark on a mathematical journey of discovery with this Glencoe’s Pre-Calculus course. We’ll dive into advanced concepts to give you clarity and confidence. Students will learn the tools to master essential pre-calculus skills, setting the foundation for success in higher mathematics and beyond.

Special Notes: This is Part One of a two-part course. Students are expected to register for Part Two offered in the Spring semester. Mrs. Breier provides daily recorded lectures for the remaining weekly lessons in addition to the 15 live classes.

Total class meetings: 15

Duration of each class: 55 minutes

Prerequisite: Algebra 2 or equivalent

Suggested grade level: 11th-12th

Suggested credit: One full semester of math

Description

After a brief review of algebra, this pre-calculus course will dive deep into an advanced understanding of solving and graphing functions including rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric. Exploring applications of systems of equations and matrices concludes Part One.

Week 1-2: Preparing for Precalculus

Week 3-4: Functions

Week 5-6: Power, Polynomial, and Rational Functions

Week 7-8: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

Week 9-10: Trigonometric Functions

Week 11-12: Trigonometric Identities and Equations

Week 13-15: Systems of Equations and Matrices

Materials and Homework

Materials: Glencoe Precalculus (print edition ISBN 9780076602186, one-year digital subscription available – please contact Mrs. Breier at minimum 10 business days before the beginning of the course if you are interested in the digital copy), graphing calculator (TI-84 plus or similar), straightedge, protractor, compass, and graph paper (I highly suggest graph paper sticky notes).

Homework: Daily assignments taking about 45 minutes (not including watching daily lessons or attending live class), with weekly quizzes or tests.
