Glencoe Precalculus, Part One

Want to be ready for college math? Glencoe Pre-Calculus is just what you need. We explore the content of all advanced topics to ready you for calculus.

Special Notes: This is Part One of a two-part course. Students are expected to register for Part Two. Mrs. Breier provides daily recorded lectures for remaining weekly lessons in addition to the 14 recorded classes.

Total class meetings: 14

Duration of each class: 55 minutes

Prerequisite: Algebra 2 or equivalent

Suggested grade level: 11th-12th

Suggested credit: One full semester of math

Description

After a brief review of algebra, this pre-calculus course will dive deep into an advanced understanding of solving and graphing functions including rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric. Exploring applications of systems of equations and matrices concludes part 1.

Week 1: Preparing for Precalculus

Week 2-3: Functions

Week 4-5: Power, Polynomial, and Rational Functions

Week 6-7: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

Week 8-9: Trigonometric Functions

Week 10-11: Trigonometric Identities and Equations

Week 12-14: Systems of Equations and Matrices

Materials and Homework

Course materials: Glencoe Precalculus (print edition ISBN 9780076602186; one-year digital subscription available – please contact Mrs. Breier at minimum 10 business days before the beginning of the course if you are interested in the digital copy), a graphing calculator (TI-84 plus or similar), graph paper, a straightedge, a protractor, and a compass.

Homework: Daily assignments (aside from test days) taking ~30 minutes (not including watching daily lessons), with weekly quizzes or tests.
