This course educates on the backgrounds and tenets of the world’s most significant religions, with an emphasis on those we are likely to encounter here in the United States, including strains of Protestantism and Mormonism. Nota Bene: Catholicism will NOT be covered.
Day 1: Introduction and overview of syllabus and assignments
Day 2: Overview of the purpose and history of religions
Day 3: Hinduism and Buddhism
Day 4: Jainism and Sikhism
Day 5: Confucianism and Taoism
Day 6: Zen Buddhism and Shinto
Day 7: Judaism and Islam
Day 8: Mormonism, and Protestant Christianity
Course materials: Everything is provided free by the instructor.
Homework: Students will compose a 2-3 page exercise in theological critical analysis and review. NOTE: Middle school students will instead write a 1-2 page analysis. Daily, optional review quizzes based on classroom lectures and discussions, worth bonus points.
