Intro to MS Mathematics, Part 1: Gamified Math Series

Math CAN be interesting and fun! Through videos, colorful text, class instruction, a workbook, Quizlet, and games/puzzles, your student will advance and solidify knowledge in several areas of mathematics. For Intro to Middle School Mathematics, Part One, we will work on math concepts, problem-solving, and vocabulary related to the Number System, Operations, Multiplying Fractions, Dividing Fractions, Ratios, Rates, Percents, and Integer Concepts. In addition to the daily homework, making use of the tools mentioned above, there will be four Section Tests and a Final Exam.

Prerequisite: None

Suggested grade level: 6th grade (advanced 5th grade or older student in need of a solid foundation.)

Suggested credit: One full semester Mathematics

Following this course, your student can continue exploring the exciting world of math with Intro to Middle School Mathematics, Part Two.

Special Notes: This is Part One of a 2-part course. Students are encouraged to register for Part Two as well. In addition to class instruction, there will be other interactive video lessons.

Printed: TWO Books (These are utilized for both Part One and Part Two of this course). Students will need copies of both books that have not been written in yet. (See https://www.bookfinder.com for the best prices): Both this TEXTBOOK and WORKBOOK are NOT used in numerical order, please see the Syllabus and Weekly Quests for which pages to use when.

Online resource: Quizlet.com. Free student accounts are available. This is an additional study resource and not part of Moodle.

Homework: Weekly homework will be detailed on a daily basis and will include instructional videos, reading, class instruction, workbook exercises, Quizlet practice, games/puzzles, and a Moodle Mini-Quiz.

There will also be four Section Tests and a Final Exam on Moodle.

Students should expect to put in a minimum of one hour a day, five days a week for the coursework.

Parents should note that the answer keys in each book are for the student’s use to check themselves as they practice their daily work.
