Basic Chemistry, Part One

Join this introductory chemistry course designed to help students understand basic chemical principles, both in a philosophical and scientific manner. If you would like your non-STEM-centered student to take Apologia Chemistry and satisfy the high school chemistry requirement, then this is the course for you.

Total classes: 12

Prerequisite: Completed one year of Pre-algebra

Suggested grade level: 10th to 12th grade

Suggested credit: One full semester Chemistry

Description

This course is designed to help students understand basic chemical principles in both a philosophical and a scientific manner. Students will learn the beauty of the created, studying the smallest components of matter. This course is especially focused on students who are not planning on a STEM field but still desire a foundational knowledge of chemistry.

Materials and Homework

Materials: Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 2nd Edition (Apologia) by Dr. Jay L. Wile, ISBN: 978-1932012262 (https://amzn.to/3qntSXd or BookFinder.com)

Homework: Each week students will be required to read a selection from the textbook, take a short quiz, and either watch or perform a simple experiment on their own. If students are having difficulties, there are extra practice problems in the book that they can do to shore up their knowledge.
