How to Supplement Your Home Study School

How to add online classes to your home study school program!

Homeschool Connections has hundreds of live & recorded courses covering all subjects available, with more being added to our catalog every year. With such a smorgasbord of course offerings at your disposal, it is no wonder that many families choose to use Homeschool Connections as a full-time or supplemental program.

There are many ways to use Homeschool Connections online classes—even if your children are enrolled full time in a home study program! This can happen in situations where you are already using a fantastic Catholic home study school but want to add an online course or two to supplement your school’s curriculum. In this article, we’ll show you how easy this is and how it can enrich your Catholic homeschool experience.

While some families use Homeschool Connections as a full curriculum in its own right, it is also a phenomenal resource for supplementing other homeschooling curricula. Our classes are designed to meet you where you’re at and give you the specific tools to meet the needs of your unique family homeschool.

Deep Dive Into Favorite Content Areas

There are many reasons why you may wish to supplement your existing home study school program with a few online courses. A common scenario is that Homeschool Connections offers courses that are much more specialized than elsewhere. For example, suppose you have a child whose heart’s desire is to be an astronaut and basic astronomy courses are too general. You could sign her up for our Spaceflight Operations and Related Science course, a jam-packed assortment of space-related sciences taught by a former NASA Space Shuttle Engineer! Or you may have a son whose interest in history extends beyond generic World History and U.S. History and wants something particular like Phillip Campbell’s History of Australia or Archaeology of the Ancient World. If you find that your child wants to take a deeper dive into the subject matter, Homeschool Connections probably has a course for him!

Help With Challenging Subjects

Another situation where it makes sense to supplement with Homeschool Connections courses is when you need extra help comprehending a tricky subject. Perhaps you have a child who is struggling with Saxon math working on his own—and you yourself struggle teaching mathematical concepts! Rather than keep muddling through day after day, sign your child up with an online Saxon math course with Homeschool Connections. That way your child gets personal instruction and gets a teacher available to answer questions—plus you’d be freed up from the task of grading and spending hours at the kitchen table reliving your own bad high school math memories!

Flexibility for Life Circumstances

Maybe your home study school already offers online classes, but you want to outsource one or two. It could be that the meeting time doesn’t fit into your schedule, or you want to use a different textbook, or you’re on a tight budget and need a more economical choice. You remain committed to the other home study program, but need a Homeschool Connections program in a pinch due to the circumstances of life.

Getting Your Favorite Instructor!

Sometimes students have a favorite instructor that they like to take for certain subjects. We have many students who prefer to get all their Latin from Debbie Gaudino, or all their literature from Joseph Pearce, or all their apologetics from Gary Michuta. Whatever the reason for spicing up your existing program with HSC, the important thing to know is that we’re here to help you. We offer courses across the curriculum and will most likely be able to provide you with what you need.

Getting HSC Courses on Another Program’s Transcript

If you’re sure that you want to supplement your current homeschool study program with a Homeschool Connections class, here’s exactly what you need to do. First, seek approval from your home study school if you want the Homeschool Connections course to show up on the official transcript from the school (most home study schools do require a prior approval). Then you need to decide what Homeschool Connections course you’ll be taking. Visit the website and bring up our Catholic Homeschool Online Course Finder. Then copy all of those course details—the textbook, the homework, the number of weeks, etc. to share with your home study school. Once you have their approval, you’re ready to sign up with Homeschool Connections. It’s that simple!
