Supreme Court Landmark Cases

This course will be mix of literature and law. Students will learn how to write a case brief as well as read and comprehend key Supreme Court opinions that have shaped our country including Marbury v. Madison, Brown v. Board of Education and Roe v. Wade.

Prerequisite: None

Suggested grade level: 9th to 12th

Suggested credit: ½ semester Government or Law. For a full semester, precede with Mr. Rivet’s Political Philosophies and Systems

Description

This course will be mix of literature and law. Students will learn how to write a case brief as well as read and comprehend key Supreme Court opinions that have shaped our country including Marbury v. Madison, Brown v. Board of Education and Roe v. Wade. Various methods of legal reasoning will be explored and employed. During the first class, the instructor will allow students the opportunity to submit cases they are interested in reviewing.

Materials and Homework

Course Materials: All materials will be provided free by the instructor.

Homework: Homework will include reading one landmark case per week, writing case briefs, and answering questions. Homework should take a student one to two hours a week to complete.
