Using Philip Furlong’s Our Pioneers and Patriots as a framework and guide, this course roughly traces the course of the United States from its multi-national European origins up through the Presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. This includes an examination of English, French and Spanish influences in the New World; the Revolution; expansion; and the Civil War. This course is an excellent follow-up to “The Old World and America” offered in the Fall 2019 semester.
