Narnia for Young Adults: The Theology of The Chronicles of Narnia

C. S. Lewis claimed that he “smuggled theology” into his fiction “under cover of romance”. Professor Pearce will help students discover the deep Christian theology that Lewis successfully “smuggles” into his work.

Description

The Chronicles of Narnia is a must-read for young Christians, and Professor Pearce brings his expertise as the author of Further Up and Further In: Understanding Narnia, and C. S. Lewis and the Catholic Church to this crash course. In six classes, students will receive an overview of the entire Narnia series and an appreciation of its themes of courage, honor, and redemption.

Class 4: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Class 5: The Silver Chair

Materials and Homework

Course materials: The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis (any edition will work).

Recommended but not required: Further Up & Further In: Understanding Narnia by Joseph Pearce (click on title for ordering information).

Homework: Students should read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe before the first class. Homework entails daily reading and daily quizzes (1 hour).
