Henle Latin: Second Year, Part One

Improve your vocabulary, SAT/ACT scores, and English grammar with this dynamic Latin course and learn the language of the Church while earning language credit. Part Three of Four.

Total classes: 12

Prerequisite: Henle First Year Latin, Parts One and Two (live or recorded), or completion of Lessons 1-20 under the guidance of another instructor.  If students have not taken Latin with Homeschool Connections, they will need a score of 80% or higher on the required entrance exam (Email [email protected] for the exam. There is a small administrative fee for the exam.)

Suggested grade level: 9th to12th grade

Suggested credit: One full semester Latin or Language

Special Notes: This intermediate Latin course can be taken by students who have taken Beginning Wheelock, Henle Latin, or passed the placement test. This is Part Three of a four-part course. Students are expected to register for Part Four in the spring.

Description

This course is equivalent to a second-year intermediate-level Latin course. Throughout this twelve-week course, students will focus on learning Latin grammar and vocabulary. They will explore both Classical and Ecclesiastical pronunciations. Quizlet and other materials supplemented by the instructor will be utilized to encourage good study habits. The textbook, Henle First Year Latin, will be our overarching guide for the course.

Week 6: Review and Midterm Exam

Week 7: Unit 7, Lesson 25: Direct Questions

Week 8: Unit 7, Lesson 25 continued

Week 9: Unit 7, Lesson 26: Perfect Active Subjunctive

Week 10: Unit 8, Lesson 27: The Vocative and Imperative

Week 11: Unit 8, Lesson 28: Suus and Sui

Week 12: Review for Final Exam

Materials and Homework

Course Materials: Henle First Year Latin, ISBN-10‏: ‎0829410260 (https://amzn.to/3elanwa) and Henle Latin Grammar (https://amzn.to/3c7hS7c). Students need to have a functioning headset with a microphone.

Homework: Students will spend an average of one to two hours per week on homework in addition to classroom time.
