Christ the King, Lord of History, Part Two

Using the popular Anne Carroll text, this course guides students through history from the 1500s through the 1990s. Learn history through a Catholic lens!

Special Note: Includes an optional writing component. This is Part Two of a 2-part course.

Prerequisite: None

Suggested grade level: 9th to 12th grade. Middle School students are also welcome – adjustments can be made to assignments for younger students.

Using Anne Carroll’s Christ the King, Lord of History, and Also Anne Carroll’s and Belinda Mooney’s Christ the King Lord of History: The Continuing Story as frameworks and guides for a year-long study, this course roughly traces Christendom through the years 1500-1990. This includes: the Reformation; Counter Reformation; the Enlightenment; French Revolution; European Communism and JPII.

Homework: Approximately 15 pages, per week, of reading from the textbook.

NOTE: Middle Schoolers taking this class are exempt from the readings.

Writing is an integral part of demonstrating both the assimilation of knowledge, and the articulation thereof. Therefore, students will be guided through the process of writing a short (3- to 5-page, double-spaced) review of a book of their choice relevant to the subject matter.

NOTE: Middle Schoolers taking this class must instead write a 1- to 2-page book report.

NOTE: Parents may contact the professor to excuse their students from the written assignments.

Weekly, optional review quizzes based on classroom lectures and discussions. Worth bonus points.
