From 1769-1833, the Spanish empire sponsored Catholic missions and missionaries up and down the California coast. This course traces their rise and fall, their nature and impact, and especially the activities of the missionaries themselves.

Homework: Daily, optional review quizzes based on classroom lectures and discussions. Worth bonus points. Students will compose a guided 2-3 page short answer exercise in analyzing the history of California missions. *NOTE: Middle Schoolers taking this class must instead write a 1-2 page short-answer exercise.
