Western Civilization, Part One

It would be a shame to live in a world that you do not understand. By taking this course students will better understand what it means to be Western.

Prerequisite: None

Suggested grade level: 9-12

Suggested credit: One full semester of History 

Special notes: This is Part One of a two-part course. We recommend registering also for Part Two offered in the Spring semester for a full year of History.

Description

This course is a survey of Western history from the dawn of man to the Middle Ages.

Outline

Weeks 1-4 – The dawn of man, prehistory, the emergence of civilization (Mesopotamia, Egypt, etc.)

Weeks 5-8 – Greco-Roman history

Weeks 9-12 – Fall of Rome to the end of the early Middle Ages

Materials and Homework

Materials: All materials will be provided by the instructor.

Homework: This course will utilize weekly quizzes and two short essays. Students should be prepared to do 1-2 hours of work per week to be successful in this course.
