Intro to Physical Education and Health

Get ready to get moving! Join this class to learn some basic workout techniques and get credit for Physical Ed. Come to class with plenty of water at your side and dressed for exercise.

Total classes: 8

Prerequisite: In good health, since these exercises are rigorous. 

Suggested grade level: 8th to 12th

Suggested credit: ½ semester Physical Education

Description

This is an 8-day course covering health-related aspects of physical fitness including flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and body composition. We will work on developing better mobility and stability through physical exercises. While learning about the musculoskeletal system and how proper nutrition and exercise benefit that system. Recommended credit is one-half high school health credit. Complete this course three times for one full credit.

Day 1: warmup, squats, leg raises, lunges, stretch / Physical Activity, Sleep & Hydration

Day 2: warmup, pushups, superman, shoulder circles, stretch / A Balanced Exercise Program

Day 3: warmup, towel curl, narrow pushups, crunches, stretch / How to Increase Aerobic Fitness

Day 4: warmup, squats, leg raises, lunges, stretch / Your Muscular Fitness

Day 5: warmup, squats, leg raises, lunges, stretch / Your Flexibility

Day 6: warmup, pushups, superman, shoulder circles, stretch / Sharpening Your Functional Fitness

Day 7: warmup, towel curl, narrow pushups, crunches, stretch / Supplements. What to take and when

Day 8: warmup, squats, leg raises, lunges, stretch / Meeting the CDC Exercise Guidelines

Materials and Homework

Course materials: Dumbbells or resistance bands are needed for some exercises. All academic information will be provided on the Moodle page.

Homework: The recorded class is actual physical exercises, for increased mobility and strength. Starting with a warmup, then muscle development exercises, and finishing with stretching. Students will have daily assigned readings and a daily quiz.
