Grade School Science Fair

Or check out the "At a Glance" documents below

Do you love science?

Then fill out an entry for the Homeschool Connections Grade School Science Fair!

Who can apply?

Any homeschooled student currently in or about to start 3rd 4th, 5th, or 6th grade is welcome to send a project and application for review for entry into the science fair.

You do not need to have taken or be signed up for any HSC classes—this is for all homeschoolers!

(A note about the grades: The contest is for students within this grade bracket. Therefore, this includes ex-2nd graders about to start 3rd grade, but not ex-6th graders about to start 7th grade.)

When is the fair?

The science fair is a live event, happening virtually via Zoom, on July 25, 2025 at 12:00 PM (NOON) EST.

All applications must be received by July 10th, 2025 at 12:00 PM (NOON) EST.

How does it work?

The fair works in a similar way to a contest—you prepare your submission, submit it to our review panel, and wait to hear whether you have been admitted to the fair!

Depending on time constraints, we plan to accept between 10-15 submissions for the live fair presentations. However, all successful applications will be included on the Science Fair webpage for everyone to view.

How much does it cost?

It is completely free to submit your project to the fair!

How do I submit my science project?

In order to join the fair, follow these easy steps!

  1. Come up with a super amazing science project demonstrating a particular scientific principle.
    1. Double check our list of questions to help you formulate your project
  2. Execute your project and film a 4-7 minute video presentation showing each step of the project. You will need to answer the question on our presentation form during the video.
  3. Save your video as an mp4 file. (You can use an online video converter in case you saved it in a different format.)
  4. Fill out the Science Fair Entry Form and upload your video file before the due date. (Make sure you double check your time zone so it is in on time! The form will close, and you will not be able to submit if you are late.)
  5. Wait to hear from our review panel! If your project is selected to be part of the fair, you will get an email letting you know whether your successful application will be featured on our website or whether you have been selected to be a part of our livestream Science Fair event. (Note that if you win a spot in the livestream, you will need to be able to attend to participate in the live Q&A.)
  6. Enjoy participating in the fair! Once you submit, you’ll get instructions on how to participate on the day and via the Science Fair webpage.
What do I win?

If you enter the Science Fair by submitting your entrance form and video, you already are a winner! For participating, you will get a $5 off coupon for an HSC Grade School 2025 Science Fair t-shirt, which you can wear to showcase your scientific achievement.

If your application is successful and you are featured on our Science Fair webpage, you will get a $5 off coupon for any live Grade School class for the 2025/2026 school year. (Check out our fun science classes!)
